Sausage Country Gravy

Pair this with our Buttermilk Biscuits for the ultimate breakfast or add a dollop or two in a breakfast burrito for another great breakfast choice!

Sausage Country Gravy

Yields 6-8 servings

1 pound pork sausage

4 cups milk, 2% is best

2 tbsp butter

1/4 cup flour

1 tsp onion powder

2 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp salt

In a large skillet over medium high heat, brown and crumble your pork sausage until there is no more pink. Do not drain grease.

Add the butter to the pan, and stir to melt. Once it is melted, stir in your flour. You’ll want to use a gravy whisk or a normal whisk at this point. Once the flour is all incorporated, let sit and cook for a minute.

Slowly add in your milk about a cup at a time, stirring in between. You should start to feel it thicken.

Once all the milk is added, add in your pepper, salt and onion powder. Give it a mix.

Once the gravy starts to bubble, turn the heat down to medium low and let simmer for 5- 10 minutes or until it reaches a thick, but still a little runny consistency to it. Make sure to stir every couple minutes to keep it from scolding on the bottom.

Remove from heat and serve immediately over biscuits, scrambled eggs, toast, etc
